Dispatch Life Support is one of the key elements in the successful recovery of our patients. Our trained Communications staff are able to provide callers with fast accurate life saving instructions over the phone. Dispatch Life Support reduces the time factor by providing emergency medical care instructions as soon as the complaint is identified.

Our Communications staff is required to be Emergency Medical Dispatch certified. Our staff is certified by the National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch. This allows our staff to provide over the phone emergency instructions through the Medical Dispatch Priority System which is nationally recognize for its life saving abilities. Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) training consist of skills such as CPR, basic airway maintenance, hemorrhage control, choking and childbirth assistance.

Each call is evaluated and prioritized according to the information gathered from the caller. Although emergency instructions can be given over the phone, it is still necessary to have an ambulance dispatch to the scene. Dispatch Life Support does not eliminate the need for an ambulance, but enhances the Emergency Medical System.

In March 2005, our Communication's Department upgraded its license from the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch to the Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatch level. Which allows our dispatchers to provide a higher level of Dispatch Life Support.

In addition, March of 2005 the department implemented a CAD System or Computer Aided Dispatch System. A CAD system assist dispatchers with the call taking and dispatching process. With CAD dispatchers are able to verify locations by what is called Geo-coding, and also by assuring that the closest EMS unit is dispatch. These are just a couple of the features that our system can provide. The system was purchased from ZollData Systems of Denver, Colorado. See our Photo Album for our staff pictures and of CAD.

October 2006, DVA upgrades its radio systems to Zetron's Radio Dispatch Console. The radio console allows dispatchers to operate multiple radio frequencies from a central point and with multiple positions. Dispatchers are able to alert stations/units with different tones to notify crews of pending calls. This upgrade improves communications between dispatch and field units. DVA is committed to improving its communications and renewing its commitment to patient care.
